Day 1: Arrival at Tangier – Transfer to Chefchaouen
Tnagier is the meeting point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic coasts. It is the gate of Arfica to europe. This pearl was known to the Greeks and Romans as the «Cape of Vines.» A few kilometers along the coast, the Caves of Hercules are something of a symbol of Tangier with their strange window to the sea forming the map of Africa. At16 kms from the city and on the Atlantic coast, make this an attractive excursion. Our itinerary continues through the Rif mountains towards Chefchaouen via Tetouan. We will spend the night in a Riad in the Medina of the blue city Chefchaouen (walled city).
Day 2: Chefchaouen guided tour
After breakfast in your Riad, we start the activity of this journey of our 11 days tour from Tangier- holidays in Morocco. We will start explore the Medina of Chefchaouen. This is a beautiful and unique city with its white walls and blue doors and windows. Unlike many parts of Morocco, Chefchaouen or Chaouen was occupied by Spain and the influences of Spanish civilization and architecture can still be seen. You will also have the opportunity to meet locals and walk through this beautiful Medina streets. We will give you as much time as possible to walk around this small and relaxed “pearl blue” painted in shades of blue. Lunch in a restaurant in the Central Plaza. We will spend the night in the Hotel or Riad.
Day 3: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fez
After spending two nights in the blue city of Chefchaouen, we will drive along the Rif Mountains via Ouazane with a short stop at the Roman ruins of Volubilis (free time to walk and explore the area). Then we continue the activity of this journey of your holidays in Morocco that will take us to the famous imperial city of Meknes to discover the highlights places of it. We start the exploration visiting the Bab al Mansour Gate, the Moulay Ismail mausoleum, the Sahrej Souani granaries and the prison(Kara prison) that was built to house sailors Christians captured at sea by Moulay Ismail (1672- 1727).
After the visit we will take a cup of tee at the top of one of the terraces of the Medina. Then we will drive to Volubilis, the ancient roman ruins. (free time to walk), the local guide is optional. After that we will continue our way to Fez to spend the night in a Riad in the Medina.
Day 4 : Guided visit of Fez
After breakfast we start our exploration of the oldest imperial city in Moroccan withb a local guide. Our visit will include-if time allows-Medersas (koranic schools) Attarin and Bou-Inania. Quaraouiyine Mosque(the old university in all the world) that was founded by Fatima Al Fihria in the 9th century. We will also visit the Nejjarine Fountain and Museum, Bab Boujloud, the blue and green door, Mausoleum of Moulay Idriss II, Chouwara Tanneries that give the feeling of having back in time. Also our visit include the water clock dating from the 14th century, Souks. traditional Ceramics and Merenid Tombs.
You will have a free afternoon to relax or to enjoy the streets of the old medina. Accommodation for the night in a Riad.
Day 5 : Ifrane – Ziz Valley– Erfoud – Merzouga
The moorning after breakfast in the hotel or the Riad, we will start this journey of your vacations in Morocco. This day takes us to the magic desert of Merzouga. On the way we will pass via Ifrane (Moroccan Switzerland) with its completely European style. We continue the road crossing the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas where a spacy of wild monkeys live and can be often seen. We will make a stop to allow you to take pictures with monkeys and to give them some food. The way offers an amazing contrasts of the landscapes.
Upon arrival at Midelt famous for beeing the capital of apples in Morocco, we will make a stop for lunch break in a local restaurant or we will do some shopping (vegetables and fruits) and have a picnic along the river. After lunch, we will continue to the gorges of the Ziz valley with its palm groves while passing through many typical Berber villages to arrive at the city of Erfoud. Arfoud is known for the best quality of its dates and also for beeing a world capital of fossils and fossilized marble. we will visit a local fossil workshop that allows you to have an idea about how plates of fossils and fossilized marble are transformed into real objects of art.
After that we will continue driving to reach the fascinating dunes of Erg Chebbi an incredibly beautiful expanse of undulating dunes also known as the Dunes of Merzouga. Dinner and accommodation in a charming Auberge.
Day 6 : Desert tour – Rissani – Nomads
Your vacations in Morocco will continue. This day we will go to visit the village of Khamlia wich is famous for its Gnawa music native to the great African Sahara. We will visit some deserted mines and we will share a cup of mint tea with a Berber or nomad family in a oasis of palm trees. After that we will drive through the black desert (Hamada) following the path of of the DAKAR Rally.
Then we will go to Rissani, the origin of Alaouite dynasty that governs Morocco where you can walk through the most authentic and traditional souk in Morocco and the largest one in the south of Morocco. In this market you will find all kinds of crafts, food and many animals. Market days are Tuesday Thursday and Sunday. Rissani is also known for its delecious Madfouna (Berber stuffed pizza) that we will taste at the home of a local family. After that we will return to the sand dunes of Merzouga in the afternoon.
At the end of the afternoon camel ride to access to the sahara desert camp to spend the night in a well equipped nomadic tent under thousands of stars and under the sweetness of the rythls of local music in the middle of the Erg Chebbi dunes. This is a great opportunity to take pictures of the spectacular sunset from the heart of the moroccan desert. Also you will explore the secrets of the Sahara and its limitless horizons.
Day 7 : Merzouga – Todra gorges– Dades gorges
You can get up early to enjoy the magical sunrise over the desert. After that we will enjoy a delecious breakfast at the camp and then camel ride back to the hotel to meet your driver. The itinerary of this day of your vacations in Morocco will take us to the Todra Gorges to enjoy the wonderful views of canyon walls walking through them. We will continue our way crossing many Berber villages and palm groves. We will make a stop on the way to take lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch break we will continue the path passing via the city of Boumalen to reach the Dades Gorges where we will spend the night in a charming hotel. Dinner and accommodation.
Day 8: Dades gorges– Roses valley– Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech
Today after breakfast, we will drive along Kelaa Mgouna (Valley of Roses) kown for its roses production and its festival of roses organizing every year between April and May when you can buy a bouquet of roses. Then we will continue to Ouarzazate known for its cinema studios which host many international film productions and that gave it the name of «Hollywood of Africa» .
We will continue the road along the Ounila Valley and at just 40 km from the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, we will arrive at the Kasbah of Telouet wich is a crossroad of old caravans that link the Sahara to Marrakech in the Atlas Mountains. It was the seat of power of the El Glaoui family. King Moulay Hassan gave them political power in south of Morocco and High Atlas Mountains. The Glaoui was almost powerful as the Sultan himself. The palace can still be visited, but it is increasingly damaged and is slowly collapsing. At 2010, works were underway to restore the property. If you have the opportunity on Thursday, we will visit a traditional souk in the Atlas village.
We will make a stop for lunch at a restaurant in the Atlas Mountains. Then we will continue the path crossing the Tizi-n-Tichka pass to reach Marrakech late the afternoon or early the evening. We will spend the night in a Riad in the Medina of Marrakech.
Day 9 : Guided tour of Marrakech
The City Sightseeing Tour includes the following key sites. You will choose between a half-day or full-day tour basis. We will visit Souks, Jewish quarter (Mellah), Bahia Palace, Minaret and gardens of the Koutoubia, Saadian tombs, Medersa Ben Youssef (Koranic School), Apothecary (Berber pharmacy of spices, herbs and oils). We will also visit the Majorelle Gardens with a nice museum of Amazigh (Berber) costumes and jewelry. If you choose half day tour option, free time in the afternoon to continue exploring the red city. We will enjoy the night in Jamaa el Fna square. Accommodation in the Riad.
Day 10: day excursion to Essaouira
Departure early the morning (8 am) direction to Essaouira Mogador at 160 kms from Marrakec( about 2hours and 30 minutes). Essaouira is a small coastal city with the most fascinating features of the Atlantic coast. Walls that divide the old city into several districts. It surprises with its straight streets, designed by a French. After visiting the port with its bronze cannons, we will take a stroll through the medina and the souks to explore the carpentry shops. You can enjoy a lunch made with seafood.
The woodwork of the argan tree is unique in this region. Enjoy this special day trip to cool off and explore the Medina of Essaouira wich is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Essaouira is a very charming and colorful city located on the Atlantic coast. It is an ideal place for those who want to relax, have contact with people or experience the authenticity of the old Portuguese city of Mogador. By the mean of this day trip from Marrakech to Essaouira you will have the pleasure and opportunity to visit and discover a women’s cooperative that manufactures the wonderful argan oil and other products.
