HENNA, POPULAR TRADITION
Used by women of all ages, it is generally used on special occasions such as weddings, parties and also when, as tourists, they wish to treat themselves to one.
Let us remember that henna was used by the Arabs to refresh feet and on hands-on hot days, since then they realized that it dyed the skin.
There are countless places where you will find tattoo artists, currently the price of a tattoo ranges between €5 and €10 (always negotiable through haggling).
They say that it is a symbol of good luck and health, on other occasions, it is also used to protect against the evil eye and witchcraft and even to improve fertility.
Its natural color is reddish and is achieved with the dry leaf and the crushed petiole of the plant.
Black henna, on the other hand, gives a brighter color but is stronger and less suitable for sensitive skin.
Its duration is temporary, no more than two weeks and we must avoid getting them wet during the first 24 hours.
When used in a Maghreb wedding, the tattoo is related to sensuality and fertility.
The type of drawings can vary a lot, there are those with flowery designs, which are widely used in the northern part of the country and the larger motifs are more seen in the south of Morocco.
In any case, they are all beautiful and in one of those walks through any medina, we will surely find someplace to make one to our liking.
